Water Collection and Water Tank Storage

An audit on roof collection area for water tank storage has determined these figures: Western tank roof area = 54.3m x 11m = 597 sq m; House tank roof area = 33m x 18m = 594 sq m; Combined roof area for house water = 1,191 sq m; Main hangar roof area = 40m x 23m = 920 sq m; Total roof area listed = 2,110 sq m. This provides us with 2,110 litres per mm of rain recorded, or approximately 2.11 megalitres of tank water each year. A rain gauge was installed near the house on February 24, 2007. Contents are recorded and discarded each Saturday at lunchtime.

Historic Tiger Moth to live at Luskintyre

The historic Tiger Moth flown solo by John Fisher from England to Australia in the mid-1990s is coming to live at Luskintyre. A special hangar is being constructed to house this unique Tiger Moth and the earthworks have already been completed. As well as the epic trip across the world, VH-GVA has also undertaken many outback trips around Australia and these are documented on maps painted on the aircraft lower wings.

Volunteers get the airfield ready for Saturday

Each Wednesday volunteers work with whipper snippers and lawn mowers to get the airfield up-to-scratch for Saturday - our weekly "get together" day. The first Saturday of each month is another special day at Luskintyre because the increasingly popular "Lunch with the Tiger Moths" is held. It's a casual affair with hotdogs and a sausage sizzle for lunch. Picnic facilities are available if you wish to bring your own lunch.
